Downtown Billings Skate Park
Billings, Montana, US
Terrain & Features
A 14,000-square-foot municipal concrete skatepark in downtown Billings featuring Musco floodlights, bowls and street ramps, and city-run all-ages beginner skateboarding clinics with loaner boards and helmets.
Anchored at the corner of South 27th Street and 1st Avenue South by the life-sized “Head Over Heels” handplant sculpture, Downtown Billings Skate Park offers 14,000 square feet of free municipal concrete bowls, quarter-pipes, banks, ledges, and rails. In collaboration with the Billings Skatepark Committee, Billings Parks and Recreation hosts summer “Skateboarding for Beginners” clinics open to everyone with little to no prior experience—covering stance, balance, pushing, rolling, and board setup, with loaner skateboards and helmets provided on-site. Following a community fundraising campaign and grants from Musco Lighting and the National Recreation and Park Association, the city also installed commercial floodlights across the slab to support evening sessions and improve visibility.
Older skaters easing back into the groove can start along the outer street banks and flat aprons before dropping into the deeper transition and bowl sections, and City Ordinance strictly prohibits bicycles on the concrete (skateboards, inline skates, and scooters only). Protective gear—including helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards—is strongly recommended. Because the park sits at the edge of a busy downtown and Southside corridor that has historically experienced transient foot traffic, weekday mornings and attended clinic windows offer the most relaxed environment.
