A 20,000-square-foot oceanfront County of Maui skatepark in central Kihei's Kalama Park, featuring a transition-focused concrete street course, a backyard-style pool bowl, a 24-foot-wide mini-ramp connected to a 9-foot vert ramp, and calm morning sessions before trade winds build.

Set steps from the Pacific shoreline inside 36-acre Kalama Park in central Kihei, Kalama Skate Park is South Maui’s primary public skatepark, spanning 20,000 square feet of oceanfront terrain maintained by the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation. For older skaters visiting or living on Maui, the park is backed by exceptional regional-park infrastructure—including 282 free parking spaces across four lots, five public restroom buildings, two outdoor rinse showers, picnic pavilions, and an adjacent 170-by-80-foot inline skating rink—and offers a reliable early-morning quiet window when coastal temperatures are cooler and trade winds have not yet picked up.

The layout accommodates multiple styles and progression levels across distinct zones. Returning riders can start on the transition-oriented street course—using its mellow banks, roll-ins, spines, and quarter-pipes to get their feet underneath them—or work across the 24-foot-wide mini-ramp before eyeing the connected 9-foot vert ramp or the compact concrete bowl modeled on a backyard swimming pool. Keep several local rules and conditions in mind: the facility is unsupervised (wear a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards), scooters and motorized devices are prohibited, and skating is not permitted when surfaces are wet. Plan sessions for the morning before midday sun and afternoon coastal winds build, and note that weekend mornings draw heavy Little League parking traffic around the main ballfield lots.
