Terrain & Features
Custom 10,000 sq ft Grindline concrete facility open 24/7 in Elm Grove, featuring an organic bowl with a gentle 4ft shallow end, covered picnic shelter, and live webcam feed.
Constructed by Grindline Skateparks at the foot of the hill leading to the I-470 athletic fields in Elm Grove, the Wheeling Skatepark is a 10,000-square-foot cast-in-place concrete public venue. For older skaters, the course offers a forgiving transition curve: its organically shaped main bowl slopes gradually from a manageable 4-foot shallow pocket up to a 10-foot deep end, allowing riders to rebuild carving confidence without commitment to high vertical drops.
The facility is open 24 hours a day with full floodlighting, making early dawn sessions before local traffic picks up especially accessible. The City of Wheeling maintains an official public webcam feed on their municipal website, enabling skaters to check current crowd levels and surface conditions before making the drive. Note that bicycles are strictly prohibited by city ordinance to protect skaters from sudden blind-side collisions, and falling autumn leaves from the surrounding hillside can require a quick sweep before dropping in.
