A modernized City of Brookings concrete skatepark inside Dwiggins-Medary Park rebuilt by American Ramp Company with upgraded evening lighting, a refreshed mini-ramp, and low-impact street ledges and banks.

Located between Medary and Elm avenues just south of Brookings High School inside the city’s joint-use athletic complex, Dwiggins-Medary Skatepark underwent a comprehensive $315,000 municipal overhaul by American Ramp Company that replaced its aging metal ramps with smooth poured concrete. For older skaters in eastern South Dakota, the modernization added upgraded overhead lighting and security cameras to support after-work evening sessions, alongside a newly resurfaced mini-ramp and approachable street terrain backed by off-street paved parking, a park shelter, and seasonal complex restrooms.

Returning riders can ease in on the flatground corridors, low grind ledges, flat rails, and mellow bank ramps or work on transition pumping in the standalone mini-ramp without dropping into deep vertical bowls. Note that because the skatepark sits directly adjacent to Brookings High School and six youth ball diamonds, weekday afternoons around school dismissal and summer tournament evenings can draw heavy youth and scooter traffic—making weekday mornings and later lit evening windows the calmest times to skate. Skaters travelling down the I-29 corridor can also pair a session here with Barb Iverson Skate Plaza in Sioux Falls.
